Lower cost subscription gym. It’s good but you get what you pay for. So if you want a swimming pool and coffee machine this isn’t for you.

Great things: Friendly, easy going environment. Gym staff are all super friendly and helpful. There’s such a mix of knowledge and interests that I benefit from talking to every instructor! Classes are mixed abilities/fitness/injuries and the staff cater for us all. I love the classes for getting me to the gym. Loads of lockers Routinely clean Showers and toilets are always available Good range of kit, free weights, racks, machine weights, cardio kit, floor space with a variety of accessories from slam and Swiss balls to roller, kettle bells, plyo boxes, battle ropes etc. It’s not a posing gym at all, massive variety of clientele. Not intimidating. Kit is usually kept tidy, especially when staff are in but it can get a bit disorganised at odd hours. It’s open all the time and 3am is quiet! I’ve never seen it too busy to be able to exercise and I’ve been a lot. I do avoid the after office hours crush if I can – it’s busy but not unusable. I’ve met lots of lovely people and never ever had a bad experience in here.

Not so good: It’s upstairs – there is a stair lift but it says to only use it with a member of staff and staff aren’t around 24/7. I don’t know if you can use it unsupervised. The number of nice big thick exercise mats is reducing. I’d love more classes and at different times too but there is a balance between price of the gym membership and facilities. I’d rather not pay any more. I’m happy with the balance! The app is good but I’ve found some problems with it. I’m hoping that it’ll improve. Like changing membership type wouldn’t work, setting another favourite gym to be able to book a class took a long time to figure out and I end up on the website after googling what I’m trying to do and following a link because I can’t find what I need. Really minor issue though because once established, it’s great. Car park can get busy at peak times

I have been coming to this gym since January and was very apprehensive about starting. The atmosphere I have to say is welcoming and friendly, I have never felt unsafe or unwelcome. There is a range of people who come and I find the equipment to a high standard. I’m satisfied with this gym, 5*****!!! Thanks Dan and Hamid, you guys are always on hand to help and be friendly.

Quite decent however it was a much better atmosphere before when owned by easyGym. They are more suited for the casual gym goer. It does get very busy during peak times.

used to be good until they increased the membership price. now it’s squashy, stinks and gets way too hot and stuffy. AC never seems to be on either. also love when i’m working out in the rainy weather and the tiles cave into my head

Amazing friendly staff and environment. Really encouraging classes, great way to make friends if you want. Love that it has a ladies only section. There are also loads of different machines for various target areas. Most definitely Five stars!

The staff are friendly, the gym is quite big with a women’s section with almost everything that is in the main area . I love going the classes. my only fault is that there is no longer cycling classes, some people leave the equipment out and it can be frustrating when looking for something such as dumbells of the same weight. ps it would be nice to have an area where you could sit down and have a coffee☕️..

A solid PureGym with the usual equipment you’d expect – nothing special but all stuff you’d be familiar with using. The women only section is brilliant – the same equipment as the main area, as far as I could tell, with plenty of floor space. Only missing a water fountain – I had to walk back almost as far as the main entrance to find one.

Been going to this gym for a while now and i don’t even know if you have cleaners anymore? The state of the ladies toilets is seriously getting out of hand and something needs to be done. I am considering moving gyms as i feel so dirty every time i go into the toilets. Really letting yourself down. If this gym was clean it would be perfect, but it’s filthy.

Normally I would say this gym is actually pretty good. A huge free weights section, loads of equipment and a good location. But since I have returned from last week… it seems to have gone downhill. The fact that there is only 1 leg extension machine and that has been broken for almost 2 weeks, the missing punchbag has not been replaced and the sauna and shower facilities (speaking for the men’s changing area) is filthy. It seems as if the current management doesn’t really care. Being a big brand like JD, you would expect staff and management to be more proactive in maintaining the high standards that are the norm. Seriously considering changing my gym since the service and standard has gone so below it’s usual expectations.

Previous gym classes used to be quite good but there isn’t enough classes or a variety now There is 1 particular class on Monday at 5.20 which never runs, there is no mention of classes being cancelled and neither is it announced. The ladies gym has 3 treadmills that don’t work and this is probably the 3rd or 4th week and it still hasn’t been fixed as of yet. More classes need to be added .

Has the potential to be a nice gym as facilities are not badm However the cleaners can not keep on top of mess especially in ladies changing room and toilet. Totally off putting!

I’ve been coming JD for nearly two years and the environment is just uncomfortable due to poor cooling systems. There’s not enough air conditioners (just 1!!imagine?)on some floors and windows are all locked at all times as result it makes the place humid and unsafe to workout to the point that, on so many occasions I had to quit my sessions. Nice gym I love it but with no air conditioning unacceptable!!!

The Essential Factors for Choosing Birmingham Best Gym for Weight Loss

When determining the best gyms for weight loss in Birmingham, there are several factors to consider. Here are some key aspects to look for:

  1. Qualified Trainers: A top-notch gym should have certified personal trainers who can provide guidance and create personalized workout plans tailored to your weight loss goals. Trainers can offer expertise, help with proper form, and motivate you throughout your fitness journey.
  2. Variety of Equipment: Look for a gym that offers a wide range of equipment for both cardio exercises and strength training. This should include treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, rowing machines, weightlifting machines, and a selection of free weights. The availability of diverse equipment allows for a well-rounded workout routine.
  3. Group Fitness Classes: Gyms that provide group fitness classes can be highly beneficial for weight loss. Look for classes such as high-intensity interval training (HIIT), aerobics, spinning, kickboxing, or dance-based workouts. Group classes provide structure, motivation, and a social atmosphere.
  4. Cardiovascular Training Options: Effective weight loss often requires a significant amount of cardiovascular exercise. A good gym should offer various options for cardio training, such as treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, and indoor cycling bikes. Access to these machines allows you to engage in effective calorie-burning workouts.
  5. Strength Training Facilities: Building lean muscle mass is crucial for weight loss as it boosts metabolism and enhances fat burning. The gym you choose should have a designated area for strength training, including a wide selection of weights, resistance machines, and functional training equipment like kettlebells and medicine balls.
  6. Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities: A clean and well-maintained gym is important for your comfort and safety. Look for a gym that takes pride in cleanliness, regularly maintains its equipment, and provides a pleasant workout environment.
  7. Supportive Community: Joining a gym with a supportive and inclusive community in Birmingham area can significantly enhance your weight loss journey. Positive interactions, friendly staff, and opportunities for group activities or challenges can keep you motivated and accountable.
  8. Nutritional Guidance: While not all gyms offer this, some provide nutritional guidance or have registered dietitians available to offer advice on healthy eating and weight loss strategies. This additional support can be valuable in achieving your weight loss goals.
  9. Convenient Location and Hours: Choose a gym that is conveniently located near your home or workplace, making it easier for you to incorporate regular workouts into your schedule. Additionally, consider the gym’s operating hours to ensure they align with your availability.

Remember, the best gym for weight loss in Birmingham ultimately depends on your personal preferences, goals, and budget. Take the time to visit potential gyms, ask for trial memberships or tours, and assess how well they meet your specific needs before making a commitment.
